A Sonnet - Earth Believer

Todd Nelsen
She is not a deadly thing that will run
From its own frightened shadow that dances.
So we turned our eyes to her brightened sun,
Daring to escape the dark romances.

Meandering through steel night to the fire,
Seeking out her eternal light inflamed.
She is calling at some secret desire,
To silence and burn at the heart untamed.

Are you mischievous children who grip
With greedy hand and an unlawful tread?
Just think of the joy the ancestors sip
From the years not lost to an earth unread.

With heat pounding the skin upon our chest,
Water now pour sacred from Heaven's breast.
