A Sonnet About Ultimate Love

Love, Hope and Charity ... And Which of These is the Greatest, I Ask Thee?

Deonils
Octave
Let me not admit that my faith ages
Or say trials did not build agape
As with martyrs, and Paul; my soul rages
And yells like Job's wife: curse your path, The Way!

Love smiled through Stephen's stoning; Paul's "Notes" say
Nothing of his pain; jailed time after time
And finally killed in the Roman way!
But I hear no voice; I can't love and rhyme

Sestet
On the pages of this doomsday book (mine!)
There are smudges, even fingerprints, of hope
How they got to be there I can't divine ...
I become grateful - love grains help me cope!
In life, we take much on faith, then defend
Our Faith, nations ... my crisis, no deadend

Faithful Note: Thank you AC, thank you Lord, that I did not lose this Sonnet as I feared, when my computer froze several hours ago. I tried to rewrite from my few notes in my journal; but it was a different poem. Then, viola! All I had to do now is to edit and post this Poetry Challenge of the Day. As my residual seed of Faith indicated, my crises are never "an end or deadend." I am grateful ... Alelujah.

  • The problem - as in traditional sonnets - is covered in the first eight lines: a crisis of Faith
  • when trials come fast and furiously. The last six lines present a solution or resolution that
  • surprised me as much it may surprise the reader.
This was a sonnet that survived many technical trials, and I am grateful, as my note at the end of the poem says, bith to AC and to the Lord of Space, Cyberspace and Time.

Beautifully written sonnet, the losing a written article has happened to me more than once, I try to save a copy before sending but on occasion I forget and lose my work. Frustrating when it happens.
