A Sonnet for My Wife

R. J. Gardiner
You say you look older than when we wed.
You think that the years have taken their toll.
But as I watch you sleeping in our bed,
I cannot help but your beauty extol.
Your hair is still soft and brown as coffee.
Your skin is still smooth and creamy as milk.
Your lips are still moist and sweet as toffee,
And the look from your eyes is soft as silk
When you're gone, my heart longs for your presence.
It's like the sunlight is gone from my life.
But when you return your shining essence
Thrills my soul and makes me glad you're my wife

When you I see I am the beholder
I can say for sure you don't look older
