  • Deuteronomy is a guide of life from God to his people in regard to His love and mercy.
  • In this book the commandments are not described in legal format but rather in a sermon of pleas and exhorts in the grace of God to his people. Another expression is on the covenant which here is more cultural than legal in regard to the relationship of God and his people.
  • Deuteronomy is a book of reminders of how God delivered his people and a call to remembrance for the children of Israel to not forget their God or to stray away to false gods as they had done prior.

In this book God shows the call to obey him is followed by blessing and life and failure to do so is followed with curse and death. Through Deuteronomy the Israelites are commanded to remember four things associated to God:

(1) God's Blessings
(2) God's Faithfulness
(3) God's Holiness
(4) God's warnings
