A Source for Nudism

Laura Frost
If there is one thing that can be said about nudity and its history it would probably be that it's always been a controversial subject. Some do not agree with a lifestyle of being nude most of the time while other's strive off and find more peace in being completely free of constricting cloth.

As far as studies go, nudity had been around for more than clothing has, so why would it not be ok to not wear clothing? Some would throw out references to today's undying crime and hate convictions. This is true in a world where nudity is looked upon as something in which fits in a category of a "crime." But in a world of peace the only ones to believe that nudity is a crime are those who outcast it. Frankly put, why does nudity bother so many when there are nude beaches and resorts which keep nudists from everyday public? This may be a question which can be answered or would have no good answer for it.

It is a good thing that nudity was not such a "horrible" thing as a lot of people seem to think it is back in our early centuries of humans.

Scientific studies produced statistics about nudity when they decided to analyze the genetics of the lice which feed off humans. They discovered that a louse could eat from a human when clothes were worn because the louse was able to hold onto to something while unclothed the louse would simply fall off and not have the chance to feed. This was not all they discovered however, they also discovered that humans had been around for 200,000 years but had only worn clothes for a little more than 70,000 years. With this study shown to us it is evident that humans condemned themselves to clothes, and have created a society in which you must own some of the "best" clothes to even fit in.

Ancient Greece was mostly nude when it came to their sports; in fact we use a word in most people's everyday life in which comes from the Greek language. The word gymnasium comes from the Greek root word gymnos which means nude. It is very strange how people can "steal" words from ancient times and not truly know what they mean especially when that word means the very thing that fight against, nudity.

Nudity was just not for ancient times however, although it was better left untouched in a world where nudity was not considered such a crime. Nudity is a part of a daily person's life among primitive tribes, these people are recorded as salvages and left to be destroyed by those seeking more gold from their lands such as one of the last remaining tribes that we know of "The Yahomamos" who were discovered in 1970 due to the large amount of gold on their lands and there leaders maliciously killed by gold-digger's in order to still gold from their land. By 1990, this tribe was subdued to many non-tribe members who took advantage of their land just to destroy the small piece of land they built a home out of. How fair is that?

This was not the first tribe to witness such atrocities and we can be sure it won't be the last. Tribes from all over the world have been attacked, plunged into a world they did know of and told how to dress and thrown into a technological age to define what they already know, greed and power walk hand and hand, that's why they were where they were.

Nudity has been said to be a bad thing for years, if it bad then how come we are born nude. Does that make us bad people cause nudity is a "bad" thing?

The unadorned, unguarded, unshielded human without pretense is one who offers themselves to their society in a very simple manner. Unfortunately we have grown away from appreciating this gesture and have come to feel a person is more trustworthy, respectable and honest if they wear a nice suit! Does that really, honestly make sense?

In art we appreciate the human form and admire its lines, symmetry, function and ability to move through our environment. It expresses emotions, shows compassion and has other aspects that are instantly recognizable and have been throughout all of human history. So how did we become so wrapped up in being wrapped up in layers of cloth? What horrible conflicts, disagreements, strife and violence led us to adopt clothing as daily armor against society, against each other? All of these things are the behaviors and problems we are trying to end, trying to get away from and hoping to survive; and yet we cling to our "armor" and hope it serves a purpose!

I say go naked, be yourself, acknowledge the humanity in the human form and decide whether you love it (whether you love us...) or hate life and still need to be shielded from it!
