We like to go to a local pond and feed bread to the ducks sometimes. One day, we noticed one that was different from the rest. While we were there, some birdwatchers came to take pictures. When they saw this one, they all got excited. They said it was a native goose, and was a very rare sight. I have never seen this one again, and am very glad I have these pictures. If any of you happen to have any information about this particular goose, please share it. I'd really like to know more about this little guy.

Post a CommentYes it is most definitely a Ross's Goose. So pretty . We have one at our local park pond, and they he is the sweetest goose. He will even eat out of your hand.
Such a beautiful goose! Wish I could help.
Hi Butterfly, I found an interesting article that I think may have something to do with the special goose in your picture. I hope this helps. The article talks about the "Ross Goose" of the central valley and the "Snow Goose" and how the Snow Goose is a very rare sight and how bird watchers have trouble telling the two apart. A close up of your goose on the "second picture" clearly shows the "black lips" and I think it may be the rare Snow Goose, but I'm not sure because the Ross Goose has black lips too, but they are very thin and almost invisible. The article was found on line at the San Diego Natural History Musium: SDNHM Focus on Snow and Ross' Geese at this address: http://www.sdnhm.org/research/birdatlas_draft/focus/geese.html
I don't know, but it is beautiful and well fed as I'm sure you've noticed Butterfly. Nice pics. Maybe white geese are native to CA and they meant it's not a malard (brown/migratory) duck, but that's just a guess. Either way, looks like a fun place as was the fish at the other pond; great fun.
A very nice read, very good.
i don;t know anything about her but she is gorgeous
