A Spiderman 2 Review

Allie Bojko
Let's begin by talking about the acting in Spiderman 2, it was even better than the first movie by far, it was simply great. Tobey Maguire's more suited for his role as Spiderman in this movie than the previous one, which is not to say I didn't like his performance in the first one, because I did. However, I did find him at times to be a little shallow in the first Spiderman movie but in this one he's clearly shown that he has depth as an actor and demonstrates this beautifully through his character Spiderman, it makes for a great movie. There were a lot more nuances in his Spiderman 2 character as opposed to the first installment, which in fact makes his character that much more believable. James Franco does a great job in his role as Harry Osborn, he's able to portray every emotion his character feels to perfection.

While I'm no Kirsten Dunst fan, she doesn't have the acting genes to play any serious roles even if her life depended on it (just being honest), I could actually accept her in her role as Mary Jane Watson in this movie. In the previous Spiderman I found her very bothersome I just couldn't stand her, especially how she played the needy, nagging and screaming desperate woman it was just too much to bare. Everyone knows just how crucial a villain is to any superhero movie's success, since it's the bad guys that make it that much more entertaining and the director Sam Raimi does a wonderful job on selecting Alfred Molina to star as the villain Otto Octavius or Doc Ock. I'm certainly a huge Willem Dafoe fan but wasn't all that pleased with his role as the Green Goblin, I was completely mesmerized at Alfred Molina's portrayal as Otto Octavius, he turned out to be a far more superior villain than Willem. Alfred Molina's Otto Octavius was very convincing and for sure the most interesting character of the two Spiderman movies.

All of the movie and sound effects in the movie have improved vastly in the sense that the first installment hit theatres just two years prior to the making of this film. It was also quite interesting to see how well Doc Ock's fighting scenes were as opposed to the Green Goblin's and it's this aspect of the movie that's superior to the first. My favorite of all scenes in the movie was the fight on the train between Spiderman and Otto Octavius it's still to this very day my favorite hero versus villain fighting sequence. I also loved the computer effects it made the movie look so much clearer and polished.

As far as the story line is concerned Spiderman 2 takes the cake as opposed to the first one. The reason why the first Spiderman wasn't as good as the second movie was because of the predictability, everyone clearly knew what was going to happen which made it boring, whereas the second movie didn't have this dilemma. Sam Raimi clearly showed us how he could take material from a comic book and reenact them on the big screen and that's exactly what he did with the first movie. In Spiderman 2 he can take a basic story and repeat the same results but yet make it fun and interesting. To sum it all up Spiderman 2 clearly beats out the first Spiderman movie in every aspect, it's more thrilling, interesting, and more emotional than the first movie installment. I truly appreciate the individuals that have taken time out of their day to read this review I am certainly thankful for that.
