Fast BMW motorcycles are pretty much a dime a dozen. Whether competing with bikes from Japan, the United States, or Europe, BMW Sportbike development has reached a point that you can walk into practically any BMW motorcycle dealership and find a sportbike that is a perfect fit for you. The BMW S1000RR is just such a sportbike. Like a comfortable pair of blue jeans, sitting on the S1000RR in the showroom is an exquisitely comfortable experience. Lean to the left, to the right, and the balance is startling. Even being a high-displacement engine, the BMW S1000RR is light and enticingly manueverable.
The BMW S1000RR Engine
While the balance and precision of the chassis is one of the greatest features of the BMW sportbike, the engine shines, too. The 999cc engine puts out a jaw-dropping 193 horsepower and 83 pound-feet of torque. This is a bike that doesn't need encouragement to lift the front tire off the ground. Chances are good that you'll pop the tire every time you hit a solid gear shift. With a rated 41 miles per gallon fuel economy, the BMW S1000RR isn't going to break you at the pump, either.
The BMW S1000RR Chassis
Light and nimble, The BMW S1000RR chassis is composed of aluminum composite, sparing a little weight thanks to the engine's being partially self-supporting. Not only does this serve to strengthen the overall rigidity of the frame, but it also drastically lowers the weight of the sportbike compared to motorcycles that utilize a sub-engine frame. Keeping the engine's weight as near as possible to the centerline of the axle hubs helps keep the top end of the BMW light and manueverable. It is this combination of features that gives the S 1000 RR the feeling that the bike knows what you're going to do before you do.

Like any sportbike, the BMW S 1000 RR is far more than the sum of its parts, but those parts all work in concert to make the bike what it is. You'll find a 4-mode ABS system integrated into the bike, loads of go-fast goodies, and even traction control. Just what you'd expect from one of the world's best luxury motorcycle manufacturers.
The BMW S1000RR should not be underestimated. It is in every respect a racing sportbike that has a bracket for a license tag and tires that can cope with rain. With an MSRP of $15,050 including the ABS option, the BMW S 1000 RR is perhaps one of the best ways to enjoy track day at your local race course.
