We made our reservation for a Saturday evening. We arrived at the Aloha Tower in Honolulu. We had planned to arrive earlier but the traffic slowed us down. After checking in with the office , we were directed to the area for boarding. We saw hundreds of people already standing in line. It was first come, first served. First choice of tables. Thinking we had missed the opportunity to sit near the window seats, we walked a little slower to the line. Just as they started to open the boat for boarding an employee motioned to us to hurry come his way. He told us to take a line that was empty. One couple went ahead of us and we followed behind them. We went up to the third floor of the ship. Not knowing if we were in the right place we entered this private dining area. Wow, very intimate and romantic! Only a few tables were in the room and only 5 tables were seated with people. We thought, how could we get so lucky being late. But this was the right area, our children had made this reservation for this menu served on the 3rd floor. There was a guitar player singing soft tunes near our table. As the other people were being boarded we were amazed at this beautiful cruise ship. We had a panoramic view out the front of the ship. It was amazing.
The Star of Honolulu has a capacity of carrying 1,500 people. It offers a choice of cruises ranging from great to superb. The 232 foot vessel has four decks . The first deck menu was serving steak and crab legs. The second deck was serving steak and lobster. The third deck ( our deck) was serving a Pacific Rim menu of Sesame Tuna Roll with Flying Fish Roe, Vegetable Summer Rolls with Thai Peanut Chili Sauce and Kamuela Tomato Bruschetta on Crispy Baguettes. That was only the appetizer! Next we had a Bouquet of Baby Greens with Won Ton Layers and Guava Vinaigrette. The main course was Pacific Rim Surf and Turf. Top Sirloin seasoned with Alaea Salt, Crab Cake , Fresh Oriental Stir-Fry Vegetables and Wasabi Mashed Potatoes. The dessert menu was a problem for me. I am allergic to pineapple and coconut. So our waitress was kind enough to change the dessert to something I could have. She brought us a big bowl of Chocolate and Strawberries and some special White Chocolate Cake. They were more than happy to make the change for me. The fourth deck was serving a gourmet seven -course French dinner. We were very happy with the menu our children reserved for us. It was perfect.
As we enjoyed our courses of dinner, we paused to take in the sights. After we had finished our main entree we decided to walk around the ship. We walked to the top deck and watched the sunset. We returned to our table and ate our special dessert . We saw a spectacular view of Waikiki going to sea and then a beautiful sunset returning to the marina. It was a night to remember~thank you for a romantic anniversary gift.
