Big Heavy C
Your computer is old & you refuse to upgrade but you have a CD Burner & would rather have a DVD Burner. Here are the steps to remove the old CD Burner & Replace it with a new DVD Burner. I highly recommend you at least have some computer skills to replace & upgrade your system.

Things Needed:

1. DVD Burner w/ Software

2. Phillips Head Screw Driver

3. Some Computer Knowledge

4. 20 Minutes to a half hour of time.

5. Computer that needs upgraded.

Instructions:

1. Unplug your Computer Unit & make sure no chords such as monitors are plugged into your computer. Once all power is removed processed to step two.

2. Remove your side panel or panels from your computer system. You may need to refer to your owner's manual on how to do this. If all else fails you can use your favorite search engine and look up the model number and name of your computer. Once you find the original owners manual of your computer it should show you how the sides come off. Most of the time it's done by remove four screws from the back, Two on each side. Pull back and the sides should come loose & be easy to remove.

3. Locate the CD Rom or Burner & disconnect all the wires from the back of it. There should be two or three wires one being a long strip with little pin holes. A power plug that is plastic with Red, Yellow and Black wires coming from it, and a sound wire which is very small & clipped into place. You will need to push down on the clip with your finger nail and pull gently.

4. Now it's time to remove the screws that hold the Burner in place, You may have to look at your manual again. Some models of Dell & Acer or other brands use a snap in place method where you pull a lever back and the Burner is easily removed.

5. Remove the Burner from the system by pushing it forward and out of the front panel of the computer.

6. Replace with new burner inserting it into the front panel of the computer.

7. Reverse the steps, Put in place & Screw or snap lever, Replace with wires that originally went to burner, Replace the side panels.

8. Connect your computer the way it usually is connected & turn it on. If there are no beeps or warnings you did everything successful!

9. Once Computer is loaded insert the driver CD that came with the DVD Burner & follow steps to install.

10. Once finished you're done! Congratulations. You have successfully installed your new DVD Burner.
