A Strictly Conservative's Perspective of Events

Why I Love What I See in McCain

Amanda Keller
Choosing a person to vote for is a mixture of facts, feelings, perceptions, and moods of the day. Yes, there are some folks out there who are staunch, devoted, ideologues who will stick by a party no matter how weak or unqualified the candidate of their party is. The majority of voters however, have a loose party affiliation that can be swayed by some of the most unlikely of reasons which is precisely why I find myself backing John McCain, a person I've often not agreed with and never would have dreamed would be the Republican candidate two years ago. I was sure I would sit this election out rather than vote for someone I was not in line with. But here I am and for reasons I never anticipated, more sold on McCain than I was on Reagan (yes, I was old enough to vote for Reagan, so what?)

What has sold me on this unlikely Republican candidate?

Most recently:

- I love that McCain left campaigning to shake things up in Washington, calling that weasel Reid's bluff and most importantly, forcing Obama out of debate prep mode and into his most hated activity of working. You see, Obama wanted no fingerprints on the financial solution, freeing him up to claim zero responsibility for it down the road. McCain reads Obama like the high gloss pamphlet that he is. McCain made sure Obama was part of the decision and so he was.

- I love that McCain threw a wrench into the works and slowed down this whole Paulsen Plan. Anything this big that in essence hands the keys of our homes over to the Federal Government while they take our tax dollars and make us pay for the keys a second time claiming we may make money off the deal which will then be used to pay down the National Debt...are you kidding? And all the while Bush and the Socialist, I mean Democrats keep saying quick, quick, gotta do this quick. Quick before the working stiffs realize what we're pulling.

- I love that no decision has been made. I love that the sky is falling over Barney Frank's pea brain. I love that because of McCain's political theatrics, time is being given for us to look back at what got us here. Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer singing the praises of Fannie and Freddie while then Sec. of Treasury, John Snow and other Republicans (John McCain) were pointing to the smoke rising from the burning building. Ironically Frank and Schumer are running around waving their hands in the air in between crying Bush did it, Bush did it. What a circle jerk those Democrats love to pull. And with the time that McCain is buying us, the Democrats' ties to Freddie and Fannie are more and more visible, giving joe voter a chance to sort out who really is working for them and who simply says they are as they call in their thoughts from Neverland.

- I love that Bill Clinton of all people has recently had a daily gush session over the Palins and McCain while only under duress and pressed questioning does he utter his verbal support of Obama. One doesn't have to be a political junkie to read who Clinton is pulling for. There are forces at work that Howard Dean has brought upon his Boy Wonder Obama and the bad blood amongst the Democrats may well be the deciding but covert factor in this election.

- I love that McCain is confident enough to take bold and creative actions to do the work of the people instead of phoning it in. McCain is a doer. Obama is a poser.

- I love McCain's pick of Sarah Palin. She is one tough cookie and has the thick skin, moxie and quick study intelligence that is going to serve McCain and the country better than any Vice President has before. The fact that Palin holds a mirror up to the angry, jealous liberal feminists and shows them what they are instead of what they wanted to be yet never could because of their own hubris and self-centered obsessions is delicious. Take the mirror and they must look , stare, study feature for feature the smiling, shining, Sarah. That drives them nuts! I love that too.

- I love that Obama chose Joe Biden over Hillary. Has anyone told the Democrats the idea behind a political campaign is to win? You'd think Karl Rove was advising Obama on the Republicans' behalf. How could McCain get so lucky? Biden actually is a decent guy but lordy, lordy, does he pull some hum dingers. Of course the best was when he admitted Hillary would have been a better V.P. choice, with a subtext of her being the best candidate, period. Biden has gaff du jour, contradicting Obama left and right. God love Joe Biden!

- I love that 6 months ago I was resigned to Hillary being president. I was Bush-weary and figured the Republicans had no one to capture the imagination of conservatives and independents. However, my favorite liberal, Howard Dean, saw to it that Republicans would live to fight another day when he anointed Boy Wonder Obama. When that happened I saw a glimmer of hope (see, Obama does bring hope!!!!) but still, the Republicans were lack luster and winning over Independents was unlikely. Fast forward to today. What a whirlwind, what a wonderful ride it has been. The left is beside itself with Smiling, Shining, Sarah making them tear their hair out at every turn. They respond with the most hateful drivel ever written, driving Independents and clear-thinking Democrats to the McCain camp in droves. Life is good. Who would imagine such a powerful creature as Sarah Palin existed to torture the left? Only in the hinterlands of Alaska could such a mythic goddess emerge. What a show!

- I love that all this rough and tumble has shone the light on some pretty impressive young Republican stars that before I had no clue existed. Michael Steele, Bobby Jindal, Eric Cantor, Carly Fiorina, also the Governor of Hawaii whose name escapes me but was a very impressive figure. Who knew the Republican bench was so deep?

- I love that we stand a chance in this unlikely election and I love that McCain is putting Obama through his paces. If Obama does win, which it is Obama's to lose by all statistics, at least McCain will have delivered a few battle scares to Obama. Somebody has to toughen Obama the Mama's Boy up. I'm never comfortable with a leader that I know I could take in a bar fight (not that I'm in that many these days but still...I know I could). GRRRRR!

- I love that liberals don't agree with any of my perspectives on this. And believe it or not, I'm glad they don't. It's human nature to have adversaries. They keep us sharp and on our toes. Competition is the basis of our system. Just hope the Dems don't vote capitalist competition out of the Capitol. Keep up the fight John. Old and bold and better than gold!

Great article, Amanda! The bit with the children singing for Obama is downright creepy! A real Children of the Corn moment. Thanks, but no thanks, Barack! We'll keep our guns, religion, money and freedom. You can keep the change! Great work!

Seeing those kids and the adults standing by swooning was a bit nutzo. At first I thought it had to be a put on, parody but those people were sincere! Would be funny if it weren't so serious.

Did you guys see the kids singing for Obama segment on TV last night? Yep, they were singing for their glorious leader. Don't the kids in North Korea sing like that for Kim Jong Il? And didn't Hitler also have the "Hitler youth"? Obama shows us more of who he is (or isn't) every day.
