A string of car break-ins and bike thefts in Royal Oak

If you park your car in Royal Oak, keep it locked and in a well-lit place if possible, as, based on incidents last week, thieves may be targeting vehicles in the area. Bikes have also been stolen lately.

The alarm on a car on Sedgemoor Street was set off at 3:50 a.m. last Tuesday, waking up the owner and scaring off a would-be thief. The owner of an SUV on the 3300 block of Rochester found a lawn blower stolen out of an attached trailer. The owner was able to scare off a thief holding his weed trimmer by yelling at him. On the 2000 block of East Lincoln, a car parked in a driveway was broken into and an iPod as well as an undisclosed amount of money were stolen. Just down the road at Fifth Street and Campbell, a wallet was stolen out of a vehicle parked in the street.

All in the same week, multiple bikes were stolen. A blue GIANT mountain bike was stolen from the backyard of a homeowner on the 800 block of North Gainsborough. A white mountain bike was stolen from a bike rack near the bus station on Sherman Drive. Also on Sherman Drive, a brown Schwinn was locked to a pillar before a thief stole it. Another blue GIANT mountain bike was stolen from the driveway near Mclean and Hudson. Lastly, a yellow Magna Excitor was stolen from Shrine High School near 13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. The bike had been locked to a bike rack.
