A Summer Drive Across the U.S.A

Devon Rimel

When I was 12 years old I lived in Nu Mine, a small town in Pennsylvania. Besides knowing when I was very young I had lived in Florida, I hadn't been able to remember what a city was even like. My grandfather told us we were going to visit some of his family in Texas, California, and Maryland etc... So we were driving across the United States, the long way!

It had only been a couple of days after school got out, when Grandpa told us to have enough clothes for 1 week packed by 6:00 a.m. and to be ready to leave by then as well. The four of us left at 6 a.m sharp to be at my Grandpa's first son's house by 12 for a get together. We arrived on time, there were at least 15 cars parked in the driveway and onto the road. We met a bunch of our extended family.

On the way from place to place we would stop at a new or unique restaurants and businesses. It was fun to experience new things from different places around our country. We went to Texas to visit my grandfather's son and his kids as well. We spent time with our relatives while the adults went out to spend time together. We ate at a couple very nice Texas Steakhouse's.

After a very long road trip we ended up in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by casino's and cheap motels. This is where another daughter of my grandfather's lived. The second day we were there we met his daughter and her friend, we went out to eat. Then it was time to turn around so we could make it home on time to get back to school. So we never made it to California.

It was an awesome summer, i think the best i have ever had. I met so much of my extended family all over the United States. It was a lot of fun for all of us.
