A Sunday Funday in Hinckley, Minnesota

Shirley Norling
Up until about 20 years ago, Hinckley, Mn. was just a small little town located about 70 miles north of the Twin Cities just off Interstate35, approximately 20 miles east of where I reside. It was known in the history books as the home of the 1894 Great Hinckley Fire that destroyed over 3000 acres and killed over 400 people. Today, the small town with a population of less then 1500 people is a great place to spend a fun Sunday with family and friends.

About 20 years ago a Minnesota Indian Casino was built in Hinckley. The Las Vegas style casino put Hinckley on the map, drawing people from all over the area to enjoy fun times in their state-of-the-art facility. The casino that sprawls out over a number of acres has fun things for the whole family to enjoy.

Kids of almost any age will enjoy coming to Grand Casino Hinckley for a funtime at either the Grand Venture For Kids aged 6 weeks to 12 years, or the Grand Arcade which has over a 100 arcade machines for the teenage crowd.

While the kids are enjoying some Sunday fun at the arcade, parents may want to try their luck on the gaming floor which has hundreds of slot machines as well as blackjack and poker rooms. If you want to watch those infamous Minnesota Vikings, you may want to head to one of the lounges where you can enjoy your favorite cocktail while watching football on one Grand Casino's big screen televisions.

If gambling isn't your idea of a fun Sunday, why not venture over to the Grand Spa to relax and renew yourself. A number of different services are available including massages for individuals as well as couples.

If you prefer some outdoor fun on a Sunday afternoon, head out to Grand Casino's Grand National Golf Club, an 18 hole championship golf course that's perfect in the warmer weather for some outdoor fun.

When you're ready for some dining after all that fun stuff you've done, a number of dining options are available at Grand Casino Hinckley. Weather it's a grand buffet or just a sandwich you may be hungry for, there are 6 different places you can choose from for your dining pleasure.

Just down the road a mile or two is the Grand Cinema 6 screen movie theatre to enjoy a Sunday matinee. The theatre features stadium seating-DTS Digital and surround sound. It's quite an upgrade form the old Roxie theatre that many Hinckley residents enjoyed for years, but closed some years back. You're also invited to try out the XBox Kinect Gaming System at the Grand Cinema Hinckley theatre. For a list of movies that are showing, check out their website, Grand CinemaHinckley.com

Tobies, located just down the street from the Grand Cinema theatre is also a great place to enjoy some Sunday afternoon football in their lounge, which features weekend entertainment including Sun. evening karaoke. Tobies has 2 large dining areas and is home of the world famous Tobies Carmel Rolls as well as a number of other treats in their in-store bakery.

If you're looking for a Sunday day of fun, head over to Hinckley. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
