A Superbowl Preview: The Game of the Year

David Kenny
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to go to the Superbowl this year, with the addition of their Hall-of-fame quarterback Brett Favre. Brett Favre has comeback for the chance to win one more Superbowl and go out of the league on top, just like John Elway and Tony Dungy. Favre has the best talent around him now then has ever been around him before. The Minnesota Vikings are fifth in the league at total defense after week 4. The Vikings have one of the best run stop defenses in the NFL. With stars like Jared Allen, Kevin Williams, and Pat Williams on the defensive line, the Vikings will have one of the top rush defenses in the NFL.

The Minnesota Vikings go into week 7 against the defending Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings are 6-0 and one of the hottest teams in the NFL, and the Steelers are getting their superstar safety Tory Polamalu back for injury. The Steelers game plan was to run the ball down the field. Ben Roethlisberger made many big plays down the field to kept the defense off the line on scrimmage to help the run gain. Roethlisberger throw a 40 yard touchdown to Mike Wallace at the end of the first half to give the Steelers the lead 10 to 7.

The Minnesota Vikings had the ball for most of the game and were able to move the ball most of the game. They just could not get the ball into the end zone. On Minnesota first series with the ball in the second half they had a first and goal at the 1 yard line. The run was stooped on first down and Brett Favre throw a incomplete pass on second and third down, so Minnesota was forced to kick the field goal at the one yard line. Because the Vikings got a field goal instead of a touchdown, they steal trailed the Steelers by 3. Brett Favre throw for 334 yard, but the 82 yard interception and return by Keyaron Fox in the final minutes of the game was the mistake that cost the Vikings the game. The interception was not entirely Brett Favre fault. The pass was attended and tip by Chester Taylor before falling into the hands of Keyaron Fox. The week 7 match up of the Minnesota Vikings at the Pittsburgh Steelers was the game of the week and possibly a Superbowl preview. The game was a hard hitting smash mouth football game that the Pittsburgh Steelers won in the final minutes of the game. The Steelers with Tory Polamalu are back and ready to defend their championship.
