A Swingin' Christmas Performed by the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra Will Jazz Up Your Holidays
A "cool" Performance That's Sure to Heat Things Up
Knoxville, TN 37902
United States of America
Described as the "hippest concert of the season," A Swingin' Christmas promises to be an interesting reinterpretation of holiday classics in the style of Duke Ellington, Count Bassie and Glenn Miller. Sean Jones, an accomplished trumpeter, will join the performance.
Jones is a professor in Jazz Studies at Duquesne University and teaches Master classes through workshops across the country. He also works as artistic director for Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. Wynton Marsalis invited him to join Jazz at Lincoln Center as a trumpeter after Jones performed with the group for six months. He has released five music recordings as a bandleader and earned international acclaim for his work. His most recent, "The Search Within," debuted at number two on the JazzWeek's charts.
Founded in 1999, by Knoxville native Vance Thompson, the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra has toured the world performing at jazz festivals in Europe. Their numerous Knoxville performances have featured many world-renowned guest artists. Also to their credit are critically acclaimed recordings. East Tennessee's top professional performers make up the band and their dedication to their art makes for engaging and energetic performances. Drawing from the rich tradition of American Jazz, the orchestra performs in a wide range of jazz. JazzReview.com has called the KJO, "A top-flight and irrefutably happening program, indeed."
A Swingin' Christmas is part of the 10th Anniversary Season of the KJO. The performance is part of a season dedicated to celebrating this important milestone.
