A Thanksgiving Poem About Blessings

Renee Lewis
Crispy leaves crunch beneath my feet

as I move through the soft drifting air

I only wanted you to keep

like a locket I could wear

Never to tarnish, always to shine

your eyes dancing when you laugh

it's funny how with time

what was sad is cut in half

I never wanted you to go away

but now I see that things are better

and anytime I bow my head to pray

I'm not just thankful for the weather

Through ups and downs here and there

I'm still grateful in my heart

And of all the holidays to share

Thanksgiving is where it starts

That's when I remember only the good

and I thank God that everything's okay

Blessings for family, and blessings for food

even when loved ones are far away.
