A Thought

Lisa Stanley
Sometimes looking in the mirror, the face seems unfamiliar
The memories dont match the eyes looking back at you
Piecing together that which sustains and haunts you
and lingers on
The years have come and gone and the girl that once defined you
has left to never return
You are not the same soul that once was unaffected by the bitter taste
of sorrow, and heartache, and death.
All that you have left is the scattered memories you try to restore and piece back together
and the eyes that stare back at you searching and haunted.

Oh, for the days when youth and energy did not know that they wouldn't last forever. What a moment, and common bond, you have captured.

Very revealing poem. I can relate to it. I have felt this way before.
