First and foremost, know her sizes.
Contrary to popular (male) belief, you cannot get a feel for woman's cup size by cupping your hands in front of you and saying, "They're about this big" or spreading your hands in front of you and saying, "Her butt's about this wide". In this situation, size absolutely matters so don't be fooled by the old cliché that it doesn't. Case in point - if you buy her granny panties that she and three of her girlfriends will fit in together, chances are you won't be seeing any of her frilly underthings for quite some time. Further, if you buy her some panties in a size that she could only get one leg into, it's going to be very damaging to her self-esteem. So, how do you get this information? You sift through her lingerie drawer, sneak a peek in her laundry, pay attention to detail, overhear conversations with friends. Any covert way you can get the information will work. Bra sizes will have a number (that's the circumference of the ribcage) followed by a letter (that's the cup size). So you're looking for something like "32B" or "44DD". Panties are self explanatory in sizing, just your basic numbers. Other things like chemises or nightgowns are usually sized S,M,L, etc.
Know her likes and preferences.
This is very important. If your lady wears granny panty hipsters, refrain from buying her a thong and vice versa. If she wears fancy negligees or baby doll sets all the time, a granny gown would not be the way to go. Pay attention to brand names. If she has several bras or panties from a particular designer, use that as your guide. Buy something she already has in a flashier, frillier style. Additionally, if it looks uncomfortable, it probably is.
See her as she sees herself.
Often times women have a very distorted image of themselves and there are certain areas that they do not think are very flattering, regardless of how you see them. If you know that your lady is self-conscious about her hips or butt, be sensitive to that when you make your selection. Just because you would like to see her in something, doesn't mean she wants to see herself in it and it can be a real mood killer if the gift is ill-received.
When it doubt, wait it out.
If you're unable to get her correct sizes or you're just not sure what to buy, opt for a gift card to a lingerie store instead. That way, there are no hard feelings and her self-esteem and your manhood are still intact.
