Todd Palin had an affair with Shailey Tripp, as alleged by the National Enquirer. Tripp is a 36-year-old massage therapist.

Sarah Palin doesn't need this now

While Sarah Palin has been busy defending her crosshairs map, which still appears on Facebook, and her "blood libel" comment, after the wake of the Tucson tragedy, now she's got a new scandal to cope with. Did Todd Palin have an affair? Did Sarah's hot hubby shag a 36-year-old massage therapist and prostitute by the name of Shailey Tripp?

"My sources reveal that a massage therapist and computer technologist, Shailey Tripp, had an affair with Todd Palin that lead (sic) to her arrest March of 2010," reports the National Enquirer by way of an anonymous tipster. "According to the tenants in the building of her offices, they saw Todd come and go often and heard noises that sounded like someone was having sex. It was the same tenants who called the police on her."

If the story is true, it will probably put to rest any chance Sarah has of running for president in 2012, but, more importantly, hurt her marriage. Whether you like Sarah Palin or whether you hate Sarah Palin, she has five children with Todd Palin, and a couple of those children are very young. Nobody wants to see a family disrupted by adultery no matter who it is.

Can you trust the National Enquirer about a Todd Palin affair?

Reports the National Enquirer, "Since the first hours of this breaking story ignited a firestorm of controversy key mainstream media The New York Daily News, Vanity Fair magazine, Yahoo News, and Gawker, among others, have cited The Enquirer's bombshell investigation into the Palin cheating scandal."

Why would mainstream media mention the National Enquirer? Isn't the National Enquirer just junk tabloid gossip?

Follow the recent timeline of the National Enquirer and you can't diss them so easily. It was the National Enquirer who broke the news on Tiger Woods and John Edwards, for examples, and they will continue to go after popular people. That's their job, and they're not about to stop. A tabloid that used to be ignored is no longer ignored, because they can't be ignored.

Says Robert Randolph, who will soon release a book, You'll Never Spa in This Town Again, about gay activity at City Spa in Los Angeles, which includes a lot of information about John Travolta, "The National Enquirer is a magazine that puts their sources to the test. They utilize tools such as background checks and polygraph tests (as well as everything in between) to make sure what they report is the truth. And, in my opinion, they are the only ones who have the balls to tell the truth."

You know what? If it is true, then yes, she needs to know. If it isn't then they can just sue the paper. She's in the public eye and should expect this sort of attention.

I completely agree about your take on the tabloids, or specifically National Enquirer (can't say the same about all tabloids). And I agree, whether you like her or not, I hate to see families destroyed by infidelity. It's so sad.

Excellent writing. I really enjoy the fact that you look at and consider all angles of a story. Well done!
