A Toddler's Sunrise

Madeline
Little One,
You started your journey in the hushed, dark night of my womb.

I lovingly rocked you through the dawn,
That gentle time of lullabies and bassinets.

Oh, but just look at you now--
On the move with the rising sun!
You burst into this space between baby and child
With your sippy cups and big ideas,
An unstoppable force on wobbly legs,
Determined to climb up to the full, bright light of childhood
Where you just can't wait to shine.

Shine, Little One, shine!
But when you need a moment's rest,
I'll be waiting for you in the dawn.
Snuggle in my arms,
Still, forever, my baby.
