A True Story

Dog as a pet is the most faithful friend in one's life, it will help you in remain close to you, guard your home and take care of the security of the house, be loyal to you. But in my case our dog Kitu is more than that, he has lived with us like a family member, played, did mischief, and remained innocent when he was a small puppy, guarded house, took care of property in middle aged and remained a devoted angel to my children when he grew old. And at last he saved my father, brother, sister-in-law, my wife and me by taking the death on him and averted the definite fatality in our family.

Kitu as a darling puppy
Always I and brother wanted to have a dog as a pet in our house from our childhood. But circumstances have some how eluded such an opportunity I getting a pet. It so happened after I joined my first job, one fine evening a street hawker brought two lovely looking Tibetan cokeispinal puppies to our house. First my mother did not show interest but on my constant perusing and request one of two innocent looking white puppies was brought at Rs.200 as our pet dog. A fine looking guy barely one and half month old with two black and bring looking eyes and with full of exquisiteness sniffed whole house with its small nose.

That evening we fed him with milk in a saucer and decided to call him Kitu and as the night fall, he began to wailed for his mother. As my mother consoled him and took him near her he slowly stopped crying and fell asleep in my mother old sharee. That's how he became one of our family members. As a kid Kitu our pet dog was very much mischief, chewed all our shoes and chapels. Kitu scratched all our floors with his small nails. Pulled cloths down from hangers, when we used to shout he would hide under the bed or behind my mother. We all adored him and soon he becomes a darling in all of our eyes and he became more than a pet, but integral part of our family.

Young fellow - Kitu our Pet Dog
As the time passed a small and cute looking puppy grew into a fine looking young pet dog, which used to guard our house, who would not allow even a crow to put its foot in out house.

He would keep his head in his front feet and sleep, but ears always in alert for any tiny sound. He would chase cats, rats, crows and howl on his top of voice and remind everyone that be care my pet dog Kitu is awake. He soon became a friend to kids in our colony and to neighbors. He would not allow any cow and other stray dogs to pass our street; he would chase them till the end. That was our pet dog Kitu, always active and ready to pounce any stranger.

Early in the morning he would chase any flower thieves, shouted till they ran away from the locality. Kitu ever agile, full of energy, active wobbling his tail on know faces and would roll on their feet till they pat him on his back that was the nature of our pet Dog Kitu.

Elderly and caring - Kitu our Pet Dog
By now I and my brother got married, and had our children. I remember when my second kid my daughter was some months old and we used make her sleep in early morning in the sun, my pet Kitu would always be beside her, guarding her from any strangers or crows and other objects. He would pounce on crows without howling, he knew if he howls the baby would wake up.

My pet dog was so polite and understanding that when my father used to brush him in the evening, my pet dog would growl but remained calm.

In those days my family members where under evil spell, one after another fell into great deadly diseases. First my father was diagnosed prostrate cancer, everybody lost hope, my brother day on which he was about to take my father to Mumbai, my brother a doctor by profession was in his clinic had met with massive cardiac attack. My sister-in-law within few months diagnosed with tumor in uterus, immediately she was operated and her Uterus and ovaries had to be removed. My wife in a short time had faced minor cardiac problem. I fell sever sick. In short whole house was under tremendous impact. When were we gloomy our pet dog Kitu would come and lick our feet and wage his tail, as if he is saying not to worry.

One day when the whole family was reeling under the impact pressure of evil. My pet dog Kitu came growled for some time and went to each member sitting in the room and jumped on their feet licked their feet as if , he wanted to convey "don't worry" every thing will be ok. That day started vomiting blood from his mouth, we took him to a veterinary doctor, on the doctor's advice we did an ultra sound of his throat and he was diagnosed throat cancer, and the doctor advised us to keep strict Virgil. That evening he sat for having milk, but he couldn't.

That night Kitu came to my mother, sat howling, my mother took him on her lap in a few minutes he fell dead. The whole evening and night my father played the hymens on Bhgavat Gita, for the departed sole of Kitu. Next day morning with full rights his body was cremated in the courtyard.

That day, the day on which my pet dog "KITU" died, all of perils and the death that loomed on our head just disappeared. Kitu sacrificed his life for the cause of my family and saved all of us.

I pray to God "Let his soul rest in peace".

Oh, what a sad story about your beautiful pet. I can so relate. Ours died from a cancer under her arm, and in the end when she was on her medicine, she just wasn't "all there", but when it wore off she howled in pain. We had to put her to sleep at 12-1/2 yrs old.
