A Tribute to "Sex and the City"

Cindy Vee
Anyone who has watched this popular series, airing on HBO for six seasons and now syndicated and showing several times each week on TBS, has enjoyed the clever prose of the writers and the inspired delivery of some great lines by the starring actors.

As I began writing this article, I realized that most of my favorite lines from the show were a little....well, "earthy". Good manners prevent me from sharing some of the very best sound bites, but I'll do my best, however, to pay tribute to the one television show that I refused to miss every Sunday evening at 8 p.m., central time, for six wonderful years:

Carrie dates a guy who is ready to settle down -
"He was like the flesh-and-blood equivalent of a DKNY dress: You know it's not your style, but it's right there so you try it on anyway."
Season 11, "Bay of Married Pigs"

This line needs no explanation -
"I'm a trisexual, I'll try anything once." Samantha
Season 3, "Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl..."

Carrie tries to explain her last relationship to her new flame, Aidan -
"Big wasn't a crush, he was a crash."
Season 3, "No Ifs, Ands, or Butts"

Carrie breaking up with Big (again) -
"We're so over, we need a new word for 'over'".
Season 3, "Running With Scissors"

Charlotte doesn't approve when Samantha wants her bridesmaid dress shortened -
"Is it so much to ask that you not wear your dress up around your c-u-next-Tuesday?"
Season 3, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Stanford's exclamation after Carrie falls on the runway during a celebrity fashion show -
"...she's fashion road kill!"
Season 4, "The Real Me"

Samantha, who is falling for Richard, explains -
"I think I have monogamy. I must have caught it from you people."
Season 4, "Change of a Dress"

Carrie is shocked that Big would consider moving from New York to California -
"If you're tired, you take a nap-a, you don't move to Napa."
Season 4, "I Heart New York"

Miranda turns to chocolate instead of men, leaving this message on Carrie's answering machine -
"Your good friend Miranda Hobbes has just taken a piece of cake out of the garbage and eaten it. You'll probably need this information when you check me into the Betty Crocker Clinic."
Season 4, "What's Sex Got to Do With It?"

Miranda (never a fan of Big's) giving in to the inevitable -
"Go get our girl."
Season 6, "An American Girl in Paris (Part Une)"

For us junkies, the fun continues with the SATC girls in their new movie opening in theaters nationwide on May 30, 2008.
