A Trip to Charleston, South Carolina

ED Watts
Charleston, South Carolina, is a beautiful place to visit. Nice, quiet beaches are just miles away and Downtown Charleston is rich in history. If you ever get the chance to visit Charleston one summer, follow this three day itinerary to get the most out of your trip.

Day 1

• Grab lunch at Andolini's Pizza in Downtown Charleston. This New York style pizza is the best around.

• After lunch, head over to the Old City Market. The Market has everything from produce to clothing to woven baskets made by the locals in a structure built hundreds of years ago.

• Next, drive over to Patriot's Point for a tour of Charleston Harbor. You'll see Fort Sumter, the USS Yorktown, the battery, and maybe even dolphins. Don't forget your camera.

• After you relax for a bit and clean up at your hotel, for dinner go to Magnolia's in Downtown Charleston for a taste of authentic Southern cuisine.

• The best way to end your first day in Charleston is with a carriage ride. This relaxing ride takes you on a tour of Charleston and your driver will fill you in on over 300 years of history.

Day 2

• After breakfast, drive to Folly Beach for a day of relaxation. You can fish from the pier, look for the famous Folly turtles, or simply enjoy the water.

• For lunch, try Woody's. Grab a sub and eat it on the beach, then get back to relaxing.

• Go back to the hotel and wash out the sand. From there, you have a couple of options. If there is a Charleston Riverdogs game that evening, then go to that. You'll eat dinner at the stadium, where they boast of having the best hot dogs around.

If there isn't a game scheduled, then drive out to Bowen's Island Restaurant for an oyster dinner. Afterwards, take in a Charleston Ghost Tour.

Day 3

• Start your day out by walking the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, a cable-stayed suspension bridge. Located over the Cooper River, you'll have a blast taking in the beautiful sights.

• For lunch, go to Jestine's Kitchen. The crabcakes are a must.

• Walk the USS Yorktown before you leave to go home. Located in Charleston Harbor, the USS Yorktown was used during World War II.

These are just a few of the sights and activities to take in when visiting Charleston, SC. Come back later and visit the aquarium or try another of Charleston's many excellent restaurants.
