A True Hero

Shellie
I am a sled dog waiting to start the Iditarod race, I am very anxious. The race starts in 1 hour. My owner has fed me, gave me a massage, and even had a "pet" talk literally. I am a trained husky and I am 2 years old. I was born and raised in Alaska and my owner has been training me since I was 6 months old. Now I am ready to finally start the race this year, and my hard work to the people who watch the Iditarod race has finally paid off.

Well its time to start the race. Victoria my owner is setting us dogs up. Tramp and rascal are in far back. Scrappy and lulu are next. Then its trooper and ranger after them, almost last its rainbow and Dana. Finally it's me thunder, the teams leader. The most bravest and strongest in the team.

On your mark, get set, go! Well I am officially on towards the big race. I have been running in this race for hours and I am still not tired. I've been running with my owner, brothers, and sisters for a while now and have not given up yet. That's why they call me thunder because I never give up and I am very fast.

I have seen so many cool things so far including snow covered pine trees, a few deer and a heard a bear from a few miles away. I have passed quite a few lakes but most were frozen solid, that's how cold it is, my snout may even turn blue and purple.

Well it is almost eight thirty in the morning and very chilly. It's near time for Victoria to round us up and feed us. We have to be tied up because we love to chase critters. After we're done eating the race must go on.

We have passed a couple of snowy towers. They are used to tell the people where we are, like a waypoint. We have gone a long way and have seen many new things such as trees, more deer, ice spots and ice carves.

Well, I am almost done with the whole race. I have past twelve towers total, and there are only fifteen, that leaves three more. My team is almost there, it's close to four o'clock in the afternoon, and boy is it getting colder. It's a good thing I have all this fur.

I have had such a good time bonding with my team; after all they are my family. This race is a long one, but I remember what my parents always told me, never to give up. And that's exactly what I am not going to do, give up. That's the best advise I have ever been given.

I am about to pass the fourteenth tower and boy am I excited. My team is in first place and I can see the finish line. It's so colorful with red, blue, green, yellow, and orange colors all around. I'm pretty sure it says "Go Team Go"!

Ohhh, we're so close six, five, four, three, two, one, and hooray! We have officially won first place. I'm so happy the whole team is barking for joy.

I am now honored as the champion, I couldn't have done it with out my team, and after all they are my family. I worked so hard leading this team to victory. Its times like this that reminds me it's always important to be a good leader no matter what.

Everyone is so proud of me; they make me feel like a true hero. Now that this race is over we can all cuddle and rest in front of the warm fireplace together. Telling each other stories of their favorite parts of the race.

This story was a about a brave and heroic dog and her family that believed in her all along. This story has been passed along for generations about the heroic dog named Nicole and her brave team.
