A True Spider Horror Story

When Spiders Lurk Beneath Your Bed

Shana Dines
A friend of mine whom I will call Lyn, told me this story about a house that they lived in. They rented out the first floor to help make payments on the house. The house was in a beautiful wooded area close to a river. Their bedroom was in the basement, which was rather dark and gloomy. I believe it was so they could rent out the upper level of the house. They were just young newlyweds at the time this happened.

Lyn is deathly afraid of spiders and was always very paranoid about finding spiders in her bedroom. One night, before she went to bed, she spotted a spider and she sprayed insect killer around the bottom of the bed. (I know you don't spray pesticides in the house, especially when you are in it, but this is her story.) I think that the spider ran under the bed.

She was lying in bed with her husband, who obviously wasn't a fearless spider killer, when she began to think about the spider. If she sprayed the insect killer around the bed, where would the spider go to escape the fumes? The logical thought was that the spider would probably travel upwards to avoid the toxic fumes. Just about the time that this logical thought came to her, she felt a tugging in her hair. She jumped up screaming, turned on the light, as she punched her husband to wake him up. She of course didn't need to punch him to wake him up after screaming. On her pillow was the biggest spider that she had ever seen. After killing it, they saved it in a mason jar to show people just how big the wolf spider was.

It didn't take them long to move out of their bedroom in the basement. I can relate to the terror of spiders. I would rather be confronted by a snake than a spider. I know that spiders are our "friends," but I would much rather have them outside doing their jobs, far away from me.

    I hate spiders.

LOL. I don't have a problem with spiders, usually. Sometimes we get huge garden spiders that wander in. I'll try to catch them and put them back outside, unless they are going after one of the cats. Then it's war and I always win the battle.

I HATE spiders! Arghhh!!! The other day, I was sitting on my couch when something caught my eye. I looked over to my right and sitting next to me was a HUGE fly spider (the ones that resemble a black widow but have the white spot). It was war! I grabbed a can of Helmet Head hairspray I use on spiders (LOL!) and sprayed the dickens out of it until it was stiff. Bet he don't come near me again ;) LOL!

I'm not really afraid of spiders. I think they're more afraid of us than we are of them. I'd still jump, though, if one was in my hair. Aaack.

Just reading this game me the creeps! I HATE spiders. I'm definitely afraid of them. One time my mom went to pull a black thread out of the basement sink drain, and it was a big spider's leg!

EW, that's the last time I would have slept in the basement, too!

I would have freaked, too, if I found a spider in my bed.
