A Two Year Olds Dream

Matt
Last year was one of the best Halloweens I ever had, and I wasn't even young enough to enjoy the full Halloween atmosphere. My wife and I have a roommate, and she has two kids. I am in the military, and my wife wanted someone to stay with her during deployments. Her two year old experienced her first Halloween last year, and it was such a great experience to be a part of.

This kid had to have looked like she had four large body guards. My wife, my wifes friend, myself, and a friend of mine accompanied this little girl down the street. She was adorable, her mother had bought her a lady bug costume. She couldn't stand the wings on the costume, and kept trying to rip them off all night. At that age, you still don't quite grasp what Halloween is. All she knew, was that if she knocked on a door and held out her hand, candy would be rewarded to her.

Getting to witness this experience took me back to when I was young and trick or treating. It made me remember the strange thrill you get on Halloween night. I think we were all more excited then she was, as she had no idea what was truly going on. She would run up the steps and knock on a door, and just hold her hand out expecting to receive candy.

After about the 4th or 5th house we finally got her to understand that you need to say "Trick or Treat". After we were done, we spilled the bag of candy onto the living room floor. Yet another flash back of my youth, I have to admit. It was so exciting to see how much this little girl had gotten, I think most of the people felt bad for us as it was pretty cold outside. We're all in our early 20's, so we could appear to others as a bunch of high school kids. I had such a great time last Halloween, it was so awesome to be able to experience something like this with a child.

It really makes you step outside of yourself and see things from a completely different perspective. Needless to say, I'll be out there this year with the same little girl. However this time shes three, and maybe she'll be able to enjoy the holiday a little bit more than last year!
