A Vacation Full of Fun at Gateway, Colorado

Imagine taking an aerial tour of majestic red rock canyons and beautiful rivers. After that you might go horseback riding or take professionally guided tours of the local scenic area. Once you've done that, you might want to hiking, riding on mountain bikes, go on your own personal ATV, or an all terrain Pinzgauer, as you view the scenery. If you love horses, you can take riding lessons. Then, if you want to do something completely different, you can tour a car museum, play disc golf, go fishing, go kayaking, or attend a murder mystery dinner. Gateway, Colorado, near the well known town of Grand Junction, is one of the top places in the state to go for summer activities. There are many things to do and see, besides the La Sal Mountains, Palisade rock formations, Dolores River, and adobe-style buildings.

If you take an aerial tour with Canyon Air Tours LLC, you will never forget the experience. You will receive an unbelievable view of the landscape in the single engine aircraft with the 675 horsepower turbine engine. Canyon Air Tours owner and pilot Deanna Strand will even give a wing up so you can take pictures of the breathtaking red rock formations, mesas, monoliths, rivers, lakes, and snowcapped peaks of Colorado and Utah. The plane was designed to fly at lower elevations anyway, so you will have a treetop view of the scenery. Many times you will see herds of deer and elk. Flights can be for up to seven people.

While you're in the area, you can go tubing, fly fishing, or kayaking on the Delores River. You can ride in your own ATV or use one of the Gateway Canyon's multiple-passenger all terrain Pinzgauer vehicles. A trained guide will tell you about the biography, history, and geology of the area. If you don't have everything you need, you can rent or buy a bicycle, camera, or even a handheld GPS in the Adventure Center.

While you're in the area, you can see the $3.24 million 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car, or any one of 45 of the most valuable cars in the country, at the Gateway Colorado Auto Museum. There are cars that date from the 906 Cadillac Model H Coupe to the 2008 Tesla Roadster.

Not to be ignored for tourists are the discs for disc golf and cruiser bikes for short rides.

If you attend the murder mystery dinner you may think everyone you meet is another tourist like yourself. Some of the people around you, however, are actors playing the role of a tourist, and they may even try to implicate you as a suspect in murders committed during the weekend. If you go for the weekend, you will not only participate in the activities, but also have a two night stay, time to see other things in Gateway, get plenty of food, and the chance to solve the mystery.
