A Vacationer's Guide to Norfolk, Virginia

Top 3 "must Do" Activities and Events

Stephanie Espiritu
Norfolk, Virginia is home to beautiful beach areas, shopping, and delicious restaurants. However not all vacationers put these things on their top ten list of things they must to do. They would rather try something different, something unique; something that they've not done before. But not all vacationers know what to do or where things take place so I've listed a few events and activities that will make a day fun and adventurous in Norfolk.

If you're an entertainment buff you'll want to visit "Chrysler Hall" located in downtown Norfolk at 201 Brambleton Avenue. Its schedule of events includes School of Dance presentations, Comedians, Music Concerts, and Theater productions throughout the year. "Chrysler Hall" seats 2500 comfortably and is home to the Virginia Symphony and the Norfolk Forum. In addition to these performances the Hall is equipped with an in-house caterer and offers a variety of concessions. Buildings dating from 1699 to 1780 are located at "Colonial Williamsburg" in the historic district of Williamsburg. This area has tons of history and was the center of education, government, and culture for most of the 18th century. "Colonial Williamsburg's" motto is "The future may learn from the past" and when visiting you'll see all that it has to offer. For example you will tour many buildings such as "Bassett Hall" which is the Rockefeller's Williamsburg home, "The Brafferton" was the former Indian school on the William and Mary Campus, "Bruton Parish Church" was a 1600 Anglican Church and is still used today, "The Public Gaol" is where criminals, debtors, and deserters were held, "The Public Hospital" was the first mental hospital in North America, "R. Charlton's Coffeehouse" catered to privileged townsmen, "The Market Square" is where auctions, markets, and celebrations took place, "Wigmaker" was the shop of Edward Charlton who was one of the best 18th Century Wigmakers in Virginia, and "Foodways" is where finer foods were made for the Governor's Palace and Peyton Randolph's home. If you'd rather spend the day outside or by the water you can at Towne Point Park located in downtown Norfolk at 232 East Main Street. The park is centrally located along the Mid-Atlantic Coast and has easy access to Norfolk International Airport and the Amtrak Train Station. There is always something going on in this area; festivals, parties, concerts, cruises, parades, opera performances, a seafood feast, wine tastings, and so much more! For additional information regarding the area and its events call 757-664-6620 or visit them on line at www.visitnorfolktoday.com.
