A Valentine's Poem

Johnathan Joyce
Time is frozen as I stand close, holding you in a warm embrace
I can't even begin to imagine what thoughts are crossing your mind
As my lips embark on a journey toward yours at a steady pace
And when they finally touch there is this strange feeling I find
It's inescapable as it begins to drift me away to some special place

I can feel your breath gently brushing against my cheek
I count your every heartbeat and I notice your pulse is faster now
But mine is faster still and for some reason my knees are getting weak
I pause for just a moment to swipe the sweat from my brow
And I gaze into your eyes, forever searching the answer I seek

Life is a poison and I'm constantly looking for the cure
I have been suffering in the darkness for years and years
I need someone to always be there, I need someone pure
When will I find someone to rid me of these fears?
That is the question, the answer of which, I can't be sure

No longer indulging in my past, I look forward to something new
I see you staring back at me with that beautiful smile of yours
And I remember you're a dear friend to me, one of few
But your also something more behind these closed doors
And it will be interesting to see what happens when its your cue

As you can see I'm horrible when it comes to expressing how I feel
I have a soft side but I hardly show it, I'm something like steel
I can be melted down and created into something new and sublime
And today is supposed to be a special one because it's so rare
This isn't something you share with just anybody at any time
Usually this is for someone close to you for which you care
So are you glad I'm your valentine? Because I'm glad your mine.
