A Valentine's Poem to My Hero

Jo Hill
If I close my eyes tight, maybe I can take a chance

Please, let me remember our last wedding dance

His strong body and his masculine sway

I can still feel his loving touch on that perfect day

If I am very silent then maybe, just maybe I will hear

His strong deep voice whispering in my ear

His gentle hands when they would caress my hair

I felt like I was walking on air

He is so powerful and demanding yet he is my sweet dear

He has been gone for so many years

When he left, he carefully wiped away all my tears

I was so heart-broken I could just have died

All the way up until his last gentle, kiss good-bye.

I know it is to protect us all

But, what will I do if he where to fall?

Could I survive with out him by my side?

But, what we have together is special I realize

When I open my eyes, I can clearly see

The color of the American sky looking back at me

With long black lashes that look like little fans

Along with a Valentine Poem clutched tightly in his tiny hands

I can feel a huge tear rolling down to my chin

I can only feel the pride from deep within

Just then my son looks up at me with such amazing grace

Softly he says, "Don't cry mommy, wipe the tears from your face,

For My Daddy the Soldier is coming home to stay!

For tomorrow is our Special Valentines Day!"
