A Vampire's Lament

Charlotte Kuchinsky
This poem stems from the fact that I choose to believe that love inhabits every soul, maybe even that of the mythical vampire.

I walk through the dark night alone
Peering into the pitch blackness
Seeking something I feel is there.
The sounds all around me enthrall.
My blood begins to ebb and flow.
I catch a hint of aroma
That stirs my loins and my palate.

I lunge ever forward with haste.
Each movement brings me closer still.
The scent I catch is oh so sweet.
I can barely contain myself.
Finally I glimpse what I seek
But I must control my urges.
For this prey will be denied me.

Its innocence pushes me back.
Its beauty strikes a chord with me;
Some lost memory in my heart
Now demands that I turn away.
It is a wish I must fulfill
No matter the consequences.
Such is the power of true love.

That's some serious inspiration. It would make a great skit.
