A Vegetarian's Guide to Alternative Meal Ideas at Thanksgiving

A Planning Guide for Cooks, Hosts, and Hostesses

When people think of Thanksgiving, many decide to have a traditional turkey dinner. However, vegetarians desire a way to still enjoy a sit-down meal with family and friends, while trying keeping to their dietary and lifestyle fundamentals during this time. Here are a few simple ideas to help with your Thanksgiving meal ideas.

Pasta - A great choice for Thanksgiving, pasta can be served as the main dish, or as a side dish. Experiment with seasonal fruits and vegetables. Be sure, however, to consider all items being served with the meal, as you would not want to cause any stomach upset. I know personally, I would not want to mix spaghetti and cranberry sauces in my belly.

Meatless Items - From frozen Boca products, to "chicken nuggets and sausages" found in the refrigerated produce section, there are many meatless items that can be served for Thanksgiving. While there, check out the cheese alternatives.

Appetizers - Morningstar Farms has some tasty frozen appetizers. I have seen broccoli and cheese bites, and other flavours in a similar shape. A punch is a great way to include some extra fruit servings in the meal. Again, make sure it is agreeable with whatever you are serving.

Desserts - Fresh and dried fruit platters are readily available this time of year. With increased transportation, many fruits typically out of season this time of year are available. To save time, many fruit platters are readily available at grocery stores or gourmet food retailers.

Happy Thanksgiving.
