A Very Kind Stranger

Please Help Me Get Home

Steven West
I need a tank of gas,
But I'm currently flat broke.
I don't know how I'll get home.
Perhaps I'll ask this bloke.

"Pardon me," I said.
"Can you lend me some cash?
My car is completely dry
I need to get some gas."

"I can't help you sir," said the gent.
" I'm busy. Leave me alone."
"Thank you for your kindness,"
I said with a groan.

I approached a little old lady,
"Can you please help me out.
My car is out of gas,
And I can't get about."

"Get lost," said the old lady.
"Don't bother me or I'll call the cops."
I quickly left her presence
As I soon felt some raindrops.

I sat on the curb feeling quite sad.
I was getting soaked to the bone.
A kindly old man sporting a white beard
Spoke to me in a gentle tone.

"Here's five hundred bucks.
Please take it from me.
You need a helping hand.
This I can plainly see."

"Thank you very much.
You're such a kind and trusting soul.
I don't know how to repay you
For giving me all this dough."

"Don't worry about the money.
I'm a very wealthy man.
Just go home to your family
As soon as you possibly can."

I bent down to tie my shoe,
And when I looked up the stranger had gone.
I wondered who my savior had been.
I just wish that I'd bid him, "So long."
