A Visit to Dashing Dehradun in the State of Uttaranchal in India

Dehradun is one of the most beautiful cities of India, which is situated in Northern India. It has a population of around 60000 people as of last count in the year 2005. This beautiful city is situated in the famous Dun valley at the height of around 2000 feet and is the capital city of the State of Uttaranchal in India. The city of Dehradun was ruled by the Garhwal kings for around 200 years in the past. It is a nice hill station having the healthiest environment.

Dehradun is well connected by all the three means of transportation. The nearest airport of Jolly Grant is just 15 miles away. It is also connected by railway from all the major cities of India like Mumbai and Delhi. There are regular bus services from all the major cities of Northern India. There are many places of tourist's interest here at Dehradun. The most famous place is the Forest Research Institute, which was established by the Britishers before around 110 years during their rule over India. The famous museum here has lot of specimen on forest products. The research work goes on continuously here in the field of Botanical science. The other place is the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, which has lot of rare species of Himalayan region. The next spot is Ramrai Durbar, which is located in Paltan market in the city area. Ramrai was a spoiled son of Sikh Dharmguru and was showing the magic tricks to the Mogul King Aurangzeb. The Mogul King took mercy on him and presented him the entire city of Dehradun. Ramrai was completely changed thereafter and established his own religion path, known as Udashi. After his death, Mogul King Aurangzeb built his grave in ancient Mogul style with the beautiful wall paintings here at Dehradun..

There are many excursions that may be covered while you are at Dehradun. The first is Sahstra dhara, which are hot water springs and are ideal for curing all types of skin diseases. These are located only around 9 miles away from city of Dehradun. The next place is Kalasi, where the wall writings of the King Ashoka have been found out. It is around 30 miles away from Dehradun. The Rajiji National park is the next outing that can be done. This forest has lots of wild animals like elephants, leopards, and all other types of wild animals. The Lakh palace is the next place. This was the place where the Pandava brothers were tried to burn alive by their step brothers and enemies Kauravas as per the story of Mahabharata. It is around 78 miles away from Dehradun. The most famous hill station of Mussorie is only 20 miles away and most of the tourists visiting Dehradun make sure to visit this most panoramic hill station in Himalayan Mountains range. There are two or three day's packages available for Mussorie from Dehradun on all inclusive basis in the range of around Rs.4000 ($100) to Rs.8000 ($200) per person.

There are many decent and luxurious hotels available here at Dehradun like Hotel Hilton, Hotel Ajanta Continental, Hotel Prince, Hotel Nivesh, and Hotel Krishna. All these hotels are having three star amenities and are located in the middle of the city of Dehradun. All types of food delicacies are available here at the restaurants of these hotels. However, the typical North Indian food delicacies are the most tasty and delicious here. Many tourists visit Haridwar from here, which is around 55 miles away from Dehradun in the direction of Delhi and take up the most famous four dham yatra from Haridwar. The best season to visit Dehradun is during the entire winter season from November to March. You may need to stay for around 3 to 4 days here at Dehradun to cover all the major sites seeing spots. I have stayed in this beautiful city for one week and had visited the queen of hill stations, Mussorie from Dehradun for 3 days. You can also think in the same direction so as to cover visit of famous Mussorie along with your visit to Dehradun.
