A Visit to the Mulligan Golf Shop of Memphis, TN

John Barnett
There are those that insist that golf is not a sport. This is a somewhat unfair judgment to pass as to do so corrupts the definition of what a sport is. Why must something only be considered a sport if you're draining all your bodily fluids in sweat, playing with a team, and facing off head-to-head?

The main three factors of any sport are all present in golf- skill, competition, and video games based on it. For those of you looking forward to spending some time golfing this year and you live in the Memphis, TN area, I highly recommend you visit the Mulligan Golf Shop.

The Mulligan Golf Shop is located on Park Ave and has been around since '96. As soon as I walked in I was met by two comforting elements. The first was the atmosphere of a shop- a cool, minty sort of aura existed inside it. The second impression made on me was the inventory. Looking around at some of the equipment and apparel you're given this feeling of choice and individuality that you don't get at more streamlined sports goods stores.

The staff may send mixed signals- but I got an overall impression of friendliness and a willingness to help. The so-called 'mixed feeling' comes from something I would regard as a positive though some shoppers might disagree. What am I referring to? Rather than hurrying around the counter to greet you and proceeding to follow you around the store awkwardly chatting and offering service, the Mulligan Golf Shop staff give you your space and politely ask if you need anything now and then. The hands-off approach is very appreciated after some many shopping experiences ruined by over-eager clerks looking to make a sale.

While the inventory at the Mulligan Golf Shop is varied and impressive, it's also very reasonable in prices. You won't be walking into the bargain bin of golf shops- instead you get a nice selection of low end, middle, and high end golf supplies. Some of the clothing comes across as overpriced when you consider how unnecessary it is to have specialized golf apparel when you are simply a casual golfer- but this can be overlooked by most.

Tennessee golfers should be glad to have such a fine place to do their shopping and I encourage both experienced players and first-timers to visit the Mulligan Golf Shop in Memphis! Pick up your first set of clubs, a few balls, and a nice cap while you're there.
