Connected to the mainland with an undersea tunnel, you can travel to Vardo either by car, plane or ferry. Most tourists who visit Vardo only stay for an hour, as they travel the Norwegian coast on ferries. There are hotels and accommodations in the small city, so the arrangements for tourism are absolutely there. If you are traveling North in Norway, a visit to Vardo will guaranteed be a memorable one, and is highly recommended. I'll give you some ideas on what to do as a tourist in Vardo, when you have at least a few days to spare.
The island is shaped in an H, and when you walk around on the island you'll face amazing coast scenery. To walk from one end to the other makes for a nice walk and should absolutely be experienced. The wind is sometimes very strong, so if you like a rough climate you are at the right place. Breath in the fresh air and take a step back in time to a city that is not all about rush and stress. The natives are friendly and outgoing people who are very outgoing and friendly. A tourist in Vardo will have no problems getting to know locals.
Vardohouse Fortress is a must-see. The only trees on the island are planted here, and the fortress still has soldiers living there at all time. It's free to go in, except when there are guided tours, and you cannot go to Vardo without visiting the fortress.
The most amazing place you'll see however is if you take a trip to Hamningberg. Ask a local about directions, it only takes about an hour and the scenery is guaranteed to astound you. The closest thing to describe is "landscape like on the moon". It's absolutely amazing, and a trip here will be worth the entire vacation.
Right outside of Vardo lays a small island with an amazing bird population. The hotel can help you make arrangements to get there; you'll be as close to wildlife as you can come.
Take a breath and relax, Vardo is an amazing place that needs help to survive. Go to the local pub/restaurant and experience a world so far from metropolitan areas. The days spent there are worth its price in gold.
