A Walk

Maria Grace
Through a series of years more unfortunate than death
She walked in a daze because it hasn't come for her yet
Always she wondered what she did in life
For every day to be laced with strife
Parents who cared for nothing more than indulgent treats
Whether or not there children had shoes on their feet
Still she walks trying to be thankful and quietI
nside her soul burned with unsung riot
It all fell on her back without relief
Aching for that moment absent of grief
Ashamed of the destruction by others sloth
Powerless to change the path where she is lost
If she keeps walking it won't stop
There is nowhere to go; she will never reach the top
It will end for her one day
But not anytime soon I'm afraid
She carries the sin of those whom never pay
Absolved of their selfish ways
She asked why she must sacrifice for others fun
The only answer she got was "you're the one""
You're the one who trusted the ones who lied,
You're the one, who believed love couldn't be denied,
You're the one who let it all in
Being responsible for others sins."
The answer wasn't complicated and long
Then she asked, "Why do I have to be so strong?
Why didn't I get to have all the fun?
Why did I have to sacrifice for everyone?"
The voice wasn't there
Just the whistle in the air
As she looked over the side
If she moved one more inch she wouldn't have to hide
Just a quick fall and finally free
From what she never got to be
A normal life soon ended
But her decision was amended
She couldn't do to him what the others have done
Used selfish wants and sacrificed her for fun
She knew he needed her protection
From the life that lead to her infection
The disease of poverty, fear and abandon
Achieved through the lack of love, truth and compassion
They hadn't ruined his soul and life
She has shielded him from her strife
But if she fell they would get his future
The very moment he was left without her
They would take it all away from him
The option of a life without their sins.
