A Walk To Remember
Written by Nicholas Sparks: My favorite book which I read in May of 2002.
A Walk to Remember, written by Nicholas Sparks, is a great book that I recommend for all genders. I am sure that the author, Nicholas Sparks, wrote this book mainly to captivate the romance and sensitivity that we all have inside. This novel was a beautiful love story highlighting the characters, Jamie and Landon. Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two, one in particular, Angela Clark, whom Landon dated his entire Junior year until she dumped him for Lew; a twenty year old mechanic. Jamie was the daughter of the town's Baptist minister, shy, sweet, mysterious and spiritual young girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out and Landon would never have dreamed of it but a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance. Landon, whom Jamie loved with all her heart did everything he could to make the love of his life happy in her last few years of life after he found out she was very sick. As imagined, Jamie died but Landon never forgot about their magical and pure love, as Jamie once said, " our love is like the wind, you can't see it , but you can feel it." He keeps on remembering Jamie with all the love that he keeps inside and never forgets. Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie showed him the depths of the human heart and led him to a decision so stunning it sent him irrevocably on the road to manhood.
One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust to hope, and to endure whatever comes" this quote was very special to me for two main reasons, it is very romantic and most important is very, but very true. I believe all love should be like that, no matter what.
A Walk to Remember brought uncontrollable tears to my eyes as I read the story as it touched on the bible, disease, miracles and the advantage of listening to what God puts in your heart to do. It made me realize that God had plans for my life and that miracles were yet to be performed in my life as I was going through a very tough marriage. From the reading of this book is where I first learned to "let go and let God! "The book gives real meaning to "Sickness and in Health" in marriage.
