It's good to be back in Edison. I have a few memories of this place.
The first thing I did when I came back here was visit the auditorium. I went to the back behind the curtains where some of the more social people used to make-out to look for a blackboard full of spit wads. The drama students used to use it as "target practice," but it was gone. However, on my way there I ran into who I consider to be one of the best teacher's in the school.
Mr. Olynyk was a History teacher and he used to dress the part of the Renaissance soldiers to make his lessons seem more vivid like as a knight or a peasant, back in the days when it wasn't weird for a teacher to be carrying a seventy pound sword on his hip while wearing fifty pounds of hand-sewn chain mail. The contemporary student would ask, "dang, where did they put the guns?" He taught History in a unique and entertaining way. One time we even went to a Renaissance fair, which is more like a ranch with a bunch of people dressed in armors and a lot of women wearing dresses that are too tight on the chest area. It's good to see he's still around promoting out-of-the-book education and bad fashion.
One of the other things I saw in the school was the Decathlon trophy. Back when I was here we missed winning by one point. Apparently, a 3-d triangle has five sides.
The old gym was torn down, I saw, which is for the better because they added a swimming pool. Everything's so convenient now. I had to walk all the way around the building to get here in my new shoes and almost tripped and fell when I tried to push on the self-opening doors.
It's good to come back to speak to some of the teachers like Mr. English, who teaches math and the drama teacher, who ducked behind a desk when he saw me. I guess he recognized me. I hope that some day, you'll have such cherished memories of your school and will have the honor of wearing new shoes and a fancy imaginary tie to say thanks to the teachers for making it a wonderful place to learn.
