A Warning About the Migraine Medication Imitrex

Timothy Sexton
Prescription medication and I do not have a happy history. The first time I ever took Wellbutrin I went from uncontrollable laughter to uncontrollable crying with pit stops along the way in which I growled like an animal and crawled around on the floor. Not a pretty sight and the reason that I always feel compelled to share my story whenever I read or hear someone mentioning they are considering taking that anti-depressant.

Recently, I had another unfortunate experience with some medication and I again feel compelled to share it. In the first place, let me begin by saying I suffer frequently from headaches. They've been diagnosed as migraines, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. The fact is that they have gotten worse over the past couple of years, especially since Hurricane Ivan. What that has to do with a bad reaction to the prescription medication Imitrex is this: following Hurricane Ivan there was one heck of a lot of junk piled up alongside the road in my hometown. Even today, you can still see the occasional sofa or recliner discarded as a result of water damage. The weeks and months following the onslaught of mother nature in the form of Hurricane Ivan led to a massive need for proper waste disposal. Well, since we're talking about Pensacola, Florida obviously you can remove the word "proper" from the method in which waste was disposed. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Pensacola, Florida pretty much can't do anything right.

As a result, they engaged the services of a Louisiana crook that is now facing jail time until he brings a landfill within a mile of my house into code. He probably never will. Lawsuits are being written up as I write this because people within a several square mile area are complaining of sicknesses ranging from nausea to headaches. The workers who are employed by the landfill are vomiting and now being forced to wear full body hazardous material suits. In other words, I'm pretty much convinced that my headaches aren't the result of migraines, but rather crooked Cajuns who don't know how to do their job and a Pensacola government that, well, makes those crooked Cajuns look like a mix of Jesus Christ and Albert Einstein.

Which brings me back to Imitrex. I called up my doctor and begged him to write me a prescription for pain relief. Rather than doing that, unfortunately, he decided I should try another migraine relief medication, Imitrex. I took just one pill-which it took me about two minutes to free from its bizarre bondage-and within a half hour I was nearly comatose. I was also experiencing stomach discomfort and, lest you think it was worth it, my headache not only hadn't subsided but actually worsened. Gradually, a sensation overtook me that combined both anger and apathy, somehow. Not sure how to describe it, but one second I was very angry about something and the next I simply didn't care. It was not a good feeling and even if my headache had gone away, I knew then I wouldn't try a second dose.

Obviously, I can't speak for every user, but I think a major part of the reason Imitrex didn't help me has to do with the fact that it is not migraines I am suffering from. I think it is a reaction to the mountain of garbage that the Louisiana crook won't properly dispose of. Stay tuned for a lawsuit update.
