The city of Chapel Hill is located in the northeastern portion of North Carolina. It is home to the University of North Carolina, numerous museums, theaters, art galleries and cultural centers. With a plethora of attractions and activities, Chapel Hill is a great weekend getaway destination.

Sports Enthusiasts Enjoy a Weekend in the Chapel Hill Area

As a sports lover, consider making a campus sporting event the highlight of your Chapel Hill weekend getaway. UNC (the University of North Carolina) is nationally recognized for many of its sports programs including football, and both men and women's basketball. If planning on attending one of these events, be sure to purchase tickets in advance. It can be close to impossible to get a ticket on the day, or near the day of the event.

While in Chapel Hill, don't just be a spectator, join in the action. The Chapel Hill area offers a number of opportunities for fun and exhilarating outdoor activities. Some things to do include bicycling, hiking and fishing.

Before leaving, play a round on one of Chapel Hill's many golf courses, or make a short drive to the Raleigh area (about a 30-minute drive) to play the new and exciting Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the campus of North Carolina State University.

Sports lovers might want to lodge near UNC's campus, or in the downtown area to be near the cities many parks/trails.

Families Enjoy a Weekend in Chapel Hill

Families with children will find lots to do during a weekend stay in Chapel Hill. Some places to visit over the weekend include the Kidzu Children's Museum, North Carolina Botanical Garden and Morehead Planetarium/Science Center. Families might also enjoy a day fishing, boating, bicycling, walking, playing, etc. at one of the many parks in the Chapel Hill area.

There are a number of family friendly hotels throughout the entire Chapel Hill community.

Art and History Lovers Enjoy a Weekend in the Chapel Hill Area

Chapel Hill offers a number of attractions and activities for individuals interested in the arts, history and culture. Some must visits are UNC's Ackland Art Museum, the Duke University Museum of Art (less than twenty minutes from Chapel Hill) and the Chapel Hill Museum. Be sure to make time for a campus tour of both UNC and Duke University as these schools are rich in history. Other things to do and see include a visit to the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery and the Orange County Historical Museum.

Art and History lovers will probably most enjoy staying near either the University of North Carolina or Duke University.
