A Wheel of Fortune Style CD Photo Magnet Craft Project

Nicole A.
Recycle CD-R discs by creating a magnetic photo display that you can use to store photos. The finished craft can become a decorative way to repurpose these old and used electronic goods.

Materials needed to make a wheel of fortune style CD photo magnet:

CD-R Disc
1 Sheet of white 9x12 inch construction paper
1 Black marker
1 Pack of blue, yellow, green and pink highlighters
1 Bottle of rubber cement
1 Pencil
1 Ruler
2 Pieces of magnetic tape strips
5 Photos
Scissor

Trace the circular shape of the CD-R disc onto your construction paper using a pencil. Repeat this step to create two circles and then cut out these shapes using scissors. Attach one of the construction paper circles onto the front of your CD disc using rubber cement. Repeat this step for the back surface of the disc until it is covered on both sides. Divide the front of the CD circle into eight sections by drawing one vertical, one horizontal and two diagonal lines on the surface using your pencil and ruler.

Use the pencil lightly to prevent ripping the paper near the center of the CD hole. Trim one of your photos into a small circle and then attach it to the center of the disc where all of your sections meet, using rubber cement. This can help to cover up any holes that were created in the construction paper cover while you were drawing the lines. Trim the remaining four photos into long triangle shapes that match the size of your CD disc sections.

Place one trimmed photo over one of these sections and secure it with your rubber cement. Repeat this step, covering every other section until all of the photos are attached to the CD. Each photo should be separated from the next image by at least one empty section.

Fill in your empty sections using a different colored highlighter for each space. You should have one section for each color of blue, yellow, green and pink when done. These colors can also be substituted for red, orange, purple or a variation of the hues if you desire. Allow the photos to dry on the CD-R disc and then write "1,000" in the blue section using your black marker. Follow this step by writing "2,000" in the yellow, "3,000" in the green and "4,000" in the pink sections. You can also replace the numbers with the years in which your photos were taken. Attach one magnetic strip to the back of your CD above its center circle. Repeat this step with the remaining magnetic strip near the bottom to add durability when hanging on a magnetic surface.
