Chicago, the city that never sleeps, is chock full of endless winter activities. Sports enthusiasts will find ice-skating and snow skiing. Shop-a-holics will find miles of window displays and winter bargains. And culture buffs will be more than content with the special events and theatrical productions chasing the chill from cold winter nights.

Whatever your passion, the following should be tops on your winter stop in Chicago:

Arie Crown Theatre. Hosting ballets, concerts, and theatre productions at McCormick Place, the indoor Arie Crown Theatre is well known for its warmth and charm. Information on performances may be obtained by calling (312) 922-4046

State Street. Within the Chicago Loop lies a seven block stretch of stores on State Street guaranteed to leave savvy shoppers breathless. The cornerstones of this shopping bonanza are Carson Pirie Scott and Macy's. Winter shoppers will be thrilled with the bonus treat of holiday windows and decorations throughout December and January.

Magnificent Mile. In Chicago's downtown North Michigan Avenue, visitors will be dazzled with the stretch of galleries and stores. Particular favorites include Nike Town and Tiffany and Co.

SearsTower. A true Chicago landmark, the Sears Tower has 110 stories, making it the tallest building in the United States. Visitors will enjoy a multi-media presentation and then a quick elevator ride to the top, where breath-taking views of the city can be seen from the observation deck. Museum of Science and Industry. A favorite of children and adults alike, this museum is a tantalizing hands-on experience you won't soon forget. Merchandise Mart. Situated along the Chicago River, this large building houses a vast number of wholesale showrooms. The first two floors are open to the public and tours are available by appointment. For tour information and admission prices, call (312) 644-4664

GarfieldPark Observatory. Bring a little color into your drab winter days with a visit to the Garfield Park Observatory. Located on the corner of Central Park Boulevard and Lake Street, this spectacular space houses eight exhibit halls and a wealth of greenery. Admission is free to the public.     Great carry-along summary for travelers going to Chicago. I will bring it when I go to WI in case we stop en route.

    Wow, I found this to be very informative. I wish I had had this guide while I was living in West Michigan. I would love to check out the Sears Tower, Museum of Science and Industry and the Garfield Park Observatory.
