A Woman's Guide to Hunting

Hunting can be fun and challenging for women, especially when you are hunting with your spouse or lover. Choosing the right rifle or shotgun can make a difference or you may choose to use a bow and arrow when hunting deer. Imagine bringing home the only deer or the bigger deer when hunting with your husband or spouse. Choosing the right rifle or shotgun with less kick and a lighter weight rifle or shotgun will better your chances in bringing home the biggest buck. Wearing the right clothing will keep you in disguise so the deer will not be able to see you as easily. This article will help you in selecting the right gear and weapon for your hunting experience.

License: First time hunters are required to take a training course before acquiring their license. Contact your local fish and game commission for details on hunting courses and licenses.

Rifles and Shotguns: Picking the right gun for hunting is one of the most important steps to hunting. Heavy guns that have a hard recoil may be suitable for men, but for women a minimal recoil is more comfortable. Guns great for women who want to hunt medium size game are the .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, and the 6mm Remington. Rounds for these guns are available with a variety of bullets. All of these guns are great for hunting game such as deer and turkey.

Bow and Arrows: The Mitey Mite bow is a newer bow on the market suitable for women, youth, and people with small frames. Long bows, recurve bows, crossbows, or compound bows can be used for hunting deer. The most popular bow used is the compound bow. Compound bows have many cam and limb options. When purchasing your bow make sure you choose the right arrows for the bow you have chosen, ask for assistance if you need it. Check your local game laws for regulations on using a crossbow for hunting.

Stands: Stands can keep you up off the ground so the deer can not spot you as easily. This allows you to be on top of the deer. Tree stands and other deer stands are available at your local Wal-Mart or any sporting goods store.

Lures: There are many deer lures you can use when hunting deer. Doe call, buck call, corn, deer scents and decoys.

Clothing: The best clothing is camouflage, this will allow you to blend in with the trees and brush around you. Hunting season in most states can be cold, you want to be sure to put extra layers of clothing under your camouflage shirt and pants. Wearing orange, whether it be a hat or gloves, will allow other hunters to notice you when moving through the brush.

Check with your local fish and game commission to make sure that the rifle, shotgun, bows, or lures you are going to use to hunt with are legal in your state.
