Reflection: Jeremiah & Esther each had a calling & a destiny on their lives to fulfill. Jeremiah told the Lord he was only a youth & therefore he could not speak. But the Lord told Jeremiah not to say these things about himself. The Lord told him he would go to everyone that the Lord would send him to and do whatever the Lord commanded him to do. Here is a young boy he can't even speak and God calls him as a prophet to the nations. Go figure! Yes, God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise!
Esther was a young Jewish woman called into a dangerous situation to save her people. Esther's attitude was "If I perish, I perish"! Esther was what I would call today God's undercover spy! In her own ability she could not do what God was asking her to do. However, when she linked her faith with God's promise and realized that if she did not speak up that her own house would perish! God would be with her, and so she boldly stepped out and did what God told her to do! When we have God's plan and can hear God's voice we will boldly proclaim whatever it is that he wants us to say!
Jeremiah 1:4-7 Then the word of the Lord came to me [Jeremiah], saying,5Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. 6Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth. 7But the Lord said to me, Say not, I am only a youth; for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Esther 4:13-17 Then Mordecai told them to return this answer to Esther, Do not flatter yourself that you shall escape in the king's palace any more than all the other Jews. 14For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall arise for the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this and for this very occasion? 15Then Esther told them to give this answer to Mordecai, 16Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me; and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I also and my maids will fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law; and if I perish, I perish. 17So Mordecai went away and did all that Esther had commanded him.
