Chair: Chair reminds me of work. I'm constantly sitting in the chair working or pretending to work. In fact, I've been sitting in this particular chair so long that my butt now has the same shape as the seat. The word chair holds no emotional ties but I'll bet if I stood all day when working for a living, it would be far dearer to my heart.
Chair also reminds me of the old wooden rocker with the massive arms that is now in storage. My grandmother was rocked in it as a child, my mother and me. I was almost as tall as my mother at a very early age and remember my legs dangling over the arms as my mother rocked me when I was ill.
Beneath: My first reaction was "What's beneath that facade?" I guess that is my second reaction too. Whether looking at people, their writing, a pile of junk or a beautiful home with a happy looking family, I always wonder what lurks beneath the public view. Some people are excellent at hiding true feelings and others show their intentions through their actions, choice of words or facial expressions so you always know what's beneath the message they hope you receive.
When I first dated Mike, I trusted no man. Every time he said something, I looked for a slip of the tongue or double meaning or sense of larceny. I kept going to a friend with this concern. Finally, Katie told me, "Can it. He isn't as verbal as you and anyway, you're the sneaky one." I had to agree and then quit looking beneath his words.
Cloud: I should write something quite elequent here about their beauty but that doesn't come to mind immediately. In fact, it's not even a close third. The second runner up for the word is from the song, by Joni Mitchell, "Both Sides Now" and the verse "I looked at clouds from both sides now." It was my favorite song because of the stanza, " Oh but now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads say that I've changed, but something's lost and something's gained in living every day." That phrase was profound to me at the time.
The number one meaning for clouds comes from my investigation into the world of psychics. I had a friend that joined me as we went to different psychics, just for fun. One day we saw a sign while driving back from shopping. "Psychic Readings." Chris suggested we stop. I was worried that we needed an appointment but she insisted that if the person was psychic, she'd know we were coming.
When we arrived, there was a child's birthday party in progress. However, not only did the psychic welcome us in, it seems that we were in luck for her sister who was at the party was psychic too! We both went into separate rooms.
My "reading" was run of the mill. I used to choose an emotion and wear it just to see if they were picking up on my body language or had special talents. This lady read body language. After the reading, Chris came out with an odd expression on her face. When we got in the car I asked her what was said.
"She told me I had a black cloud over my head."
"Gosh," I said to that remark, not knowing what else to say. She however, continued on with their conversation.
"Then she told me for $100 dollars, she'd take it away."
"What did you say, " knowing that at the time $100 was like $500 today.
"I told her h*ll no. For $100 I'd buy a d**n big extension ladder and remove the black cloud myself."
Sentimental: Hmmmmm "Sentimental Journey" was the first song that I learned on the piano but it does remind me of a lot of men that I know. It seems that no matter how tough they are, there's a soft spot in soul for animals and children. Once I caught my father crying at a WWII movie. When I asked if he was okay, he said, "They killed the cat." I immediately looked around the room and our cat was okay so I presumed it was in the movie.
Material: This means something to write about, as in; That is great "material" for an article. It's what keeps us all writing. Once we find the right material we hope that someone reads "our material," so we can benefit in a "material" way.
Even though this article bears witness that I'm not that profound, it was amazingly fun to write.

Post a CommentThis is so much fun - thanks
This reminded me of William Faulkner's writing. Mainly because... I never knew where you were headed with this article! (from discussion of chair to psychics... who could've guessed?!)
...and it was amzingly fun to read. Nice job, JP. I liked "beneath," and how you managed to stop looking under the words.
Good one, this word game is a lot of fun!
Very creative. Well done.
Reading everybody's articles on the words sent by Tracie has been great fun. Chair reminds me of my grandfather's comfy chair. I used to sit in it with him and watch TV. I can still picture it in my mind.
I'm really enjoying reading these. I just hope your friend had insurance in case she fell! I couldn't agree more with sentimental...hubby looks intimidating but he's a big old softy.
Nice article - I like your friend's response to the psychic!
