A Work from Home Mommy

Technology has allowed me to have the career I want and be the type of mom I want to be. It allows me to work from home each day, enabling me to be here for my family while still advancing my career.

A few years ago, I'd have to leave my home and drive forty miles roundtrip to the office. I'd sit in traffic, have to get dressed up and pay for expensive gas. Now thanks to the magic of telecommuting, I can wake up and spend time with my daughter. With the time I normally would have wasted driving into the office; we can read books and enjoy a nice breakfast together.

If we are having a hectic day, it's perfectly OK to logon to work in my pajamas or sweatpants. I can now use my lunch break to run the dishwasher, vacuum, or start a load of laundry. If I need to work overtime, I can work it from the comfort of my home office where I can listen to my daughter sleeping at night on the baby monitor. If my daughter is sick from school, she can stay home with me where I can care for her while I work. The flexibility that technology offers me is incredible. It allows me to be so much more productive when I am working because I am at home if I am needed by my family.

I never dreamed technology would change my life so much, but it has. It's allowed me to pursue my career, earn an income and be close to my family at the same time. I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to be the mommy I want to be.
