I plan on contributing to the diversity in many different ways. I am African American, and that is a big part of who I am. I think its important for others to be exposed to people who are different then they are, because it opens up peoples minds. When people understand one another, that opens the doors for friendship, and unity. Diversity in college will also be vital to work, after college; especially in my intended major, business management.
My race isn't the only thing that would bring diversity. I am a very opinionated individual, and I make sure to get my point across. I have strong opinions on everything from politics to pop culture. Conversations with people who have different beliefs is important because it promotes rationality and truth. I am sure that there tons of people who don't agree with my views, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't share them with those people.
At the end of the day, we are all just people. And the sooner we all realize that , the better we will be. Life is to short to have to deal with racism, sexism, misunderstanding, and ignorance; which are all results of the lack of diversity. Why waste time? I think its better to become comfortable with one's surroundings. So many of the worlds problems are caused by extreme ignorance, and it just needs to stop.

Post a CommentI agree that racism, sexism, etc are bad things, but look at how far America has come. There was a time when Blacks were slaves: now they have college clubs specifically for Blacks. There was a time when women weren't allowed to vote, now we have one running for president. There was a time when we were killing Native Americans for land, now we've not only returned (part of) the land, but we've made it practically its own nation, AND we PAY the Native Americans simply for being Native Americans! (THAT, by the way, is racism. I'm White: why don't i get money too?!) I think at this point we have a little TOO MUCH diversity. So stop fighting, and just take a few breaths. We need to lay back a bit as a nation.
