A Writer's Pledge

I never intended to become a writer
but I have always been a fighter.
Fighting with words
may sound absurd,
but if it gets the job done
I'll write more, and then some.

I will write for victims of abuse,
for their perpetrators there is no excuse.
When the strong prey on the weak,
I will write and always seek,
for justice and restitution
to be their resolution.

I will write for the hungry and homeless,
the tired, and helpless, and hopeless.
Those who walk among us,
with downcast eyes on the bus,
will find hope in the words of my pen
and maybe even a grin.

I intend to write until my fingers bleed,
and pray God will grant me to succeed,
to fulfill this pledge
and sharpen the edge
of this pen, that's become my sword,
to lay waste to the evils I abhor.
